Khao Lak, Thailand
You can’t go to Thailand without visiting the beaches, right? After the craziness of Kuala Lumpur, I needed a quiet, chilled place that was cheap to fly to. Khao Lak fit the bill. I flew into Phuket which is easy to get to cheaply by air and then drove one and a half hours to ThaiLife Meditation and Wellness Resort.
Ironically, the transport one way was the same price as my flight from Kuala Lumpur. So much for cheap.
I spent three days at this peaceful resort with 37 traditional Thai villas that surround a lake with beach access 400 meters away from the main resort. I secured the villa through Agoda- the primary hotel booking agent in Asia. I usually use Booking. com, but Agoda offered better pricing.
I thoroughly enjoyed doing absolutely nothing here. The resort is quite remote, about 20 mins from the town center. I didn’t have a car but was perfectly content to walk along the private beach, play in the waves, have breakfast, do some work, get a massage and do some work. This was my routine for three days. Not bad. Many of the guests are repeat visitors- one German lady I spoke to said that she had been coming to ThaiLife for 10 years!
On my walks to the beach in the morning I noticed a huge development being built, on closer inspection I saw that it was a Marriott property under construction. I was sad to see that since the peaceful vibe of ThaiLife will inevitably be changed. NEXT STOP: Bangkok
