More Than Just a Tourist

About me

Hi, thanks for visiting my blog. I’m a business strategist, travel coach, and an avid solo traveler. My first solo trip was to Paris, France more than 20 years ago. Back then I realized that if I waited for others to find the time and the funds to travel with me, I’d never get to experience the places I dreamt about. Still true today.

A year after the Paris trip, I had my son, Judah, who was diagnosed with autism when he was three. I took a hiatus from international travel to raise him. He’s now an adult and 20 years worth of wanderlust has been unleashed. I've rediscovered passions such as photography and have discovered an adventurous part of me that I never knew existed. I've walked with lions in South Africa, hiked down an ancient volcano in Tanzania, taken a hot air ballon ride in Turkey and crossed the border between Argentina and Chile on foot. I've stayed in villas, palazzos, beachfront properties and modest guest houses where hot water was non-existent.  I've learned to be more present, more resilient, more spontaneous.

With the confidence and wisdom that comes with being 50-something, I embrace the personal growth that comes solo travel. and although I travel alone, I'm rarely lonely.  I love being with myself. I've learned a ton since I've jumped back into the travel waters (literally and figuratively) and I know it can be intimidating to venture to unknown places. My hope is that the knowledge and experiences that I share in this blog will inspire you plus provide you with the tips and tools to take that trip you've always wanted to take.

My goal is to be a visitor, not a tourist - to connect with local people, to explore this beautiful planet and to learn and understand the history, culture, economics and social dynamics of the places where my foot touches.

I invite you to come along with me as I roam the globe.
